Investing in wineries and vineyards in Argentina
Currently there are about 900 working wineries in Argentina and more than 224,000 hectares of vineyards for wine production.
The classification of wine valleys in Argentina follows mainly the latitude axis (North-South) with the North being warmer than the South. These Argentinean valleys are drier than their Chilean counterparts due to the scarcity of rain. The Andes stop all the influence of breezes coming from the Pacific Ocean and on the other hand the Atlantic Ocean is far away. There are winds called ZONDA, these are winds that descend from the Andes to the plains and in the process the air is heated leaving almost no water vapor (being very little heat that can be lost by evaporation). The temperature of the air rises by 1ºC for every 100 m, reaching 30ºC when this descending air current reaches the valley plains.
Among the Argentinean climates there are two types where wine making activities are mainly developed, technically called arid climates and arid cold of Patagonia. Both climates are found in the western regions of the country, near the Andes.
Within the arid climates, there is the arid mountain climate that prevails in the Puna region and in the Andes (from Catamarca to Mendoza) and the arid climate of the sierras that extends to the east of the Andes (East Mendoza) and matches approximately with the region of the Sierras Pampeanas.
The cold arid climate of Patagonia loses its arid character in the south of Mendoza, between 40 and 42º latitude. This transformation of the thermal regime originates another type of colder climate that appears in Neuquén and Río Negro.
In our portfolio of wineries for sale in Argentina you can find family wineries in the beautiful wine production valleys at the foot of the Andes such as the Salta and Catamarca Valleys as well as larger production wineries in the Mendoza Valleys in Argentina such as the Maipu, Lujan de Cuyo, East Mendoza, Uco and San Rafael Valleys. Also in the Argentinean Patagonia in Neuquén and Rio Negro we can find some of the most remote regions of the earth.
