Wineries for sale in the french South-West - Pyrenean Piedmont

Madiran: emblematic AOC of the Pyrenean Pyrenees, Madiran extends over 1,300 ha of vineyards in the departments of Haute-Pyrénées, Gers and Pyrénées Atlantiques. Its dense, full-bodied red wine is made mainly from the Tannat variety, which must be present in 40 to 60% of the wine and can be blended with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Fer Servadou. This area meets the AOC Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh which produces exclusively white wines.

Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh: this AOC corresponds geographically with the area of Madiran and produces exclusively dry and sweet white wines. The sweet wines are made from the Petit Manseng grape, the queen grape variety in this area of the Pyrenees. Petit Courbu, the other main grape variety of the area, is also used in the composition of the wines. Gros Manseng, Sauvignon Blanc and Aurrufiac are secondary varieties.

Jurançon: prestigious AOC of 800 ha, although it produces dry white wines, its renown is due to its incomparable sweet wines of race and that it ages very well. The white wines are made from Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, Courbu, Camaralet and Lauzet. For some years now, the producers and winegrowers of this wine-growing area have been working conscientiously on quality and have made the name of Jurançon one of the best-known appellations of the South-West wine-growing region.

Irouléguy: this small AOC emblematic of the Basque Country covers an area of 220 ha. This high-altitude vineyard is planted on spectacular terraces where mainly red and rosé wines are produced from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat grapes, but also white wines from Gros and Petit Manseng and Courbu grapes. This appellation is being revalued thanks to some talented producers.

Côtes de Saint-Mont: located in Gers, this 1,100 ha AOVDQS produces red, rosé and white wines from grapes similar to those of the neighbouring Tursan area. The reputation of Saint Mont is mainly due to the Plaimont cooperative, a driving force for quality in the South-West for 30 years.

Tursan: this small AOVDQS in the Landes covers some 440 ha and produces mainly red, rosé and a little white wine. This appellation uses the varieties Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Fer Servadou for the reds and rosés and for the whites the varieties Baroque, Petit et Gros Manseng and Sauvignon Blanc.

Vins de Pays de Côtes de Gascogne: while the whole of the South-West produces mostly red wines, the Gascogne hillsides are the only ones to produce almost exclusively white wines (90%). These vineyards cover some 11,000 ha, mainly in the Gers and a little in the Landes and Lot-et-Garonne. Their production is one of the most exported in France, with 75% of the wines going abroad. To produce these wines, a wide variety of grapes have been authorised, among which we find in whites, Chardonnay, Columbrad, Muscadelle, Falle Blanche, Gros et Petit Manseng and Mauzac and among the reds, cabernets, Malbec, Gamay, Merlot, Syrah, Jurançon, Tannat and Courbu.
